In this weekly newsletter, I share opportunities for photographers for exhibitions, publications, fellowships, grants, residencies, jobs, and more. My goal is to make the photography world more accessible, especially to emerging artists. While I include both free opportunities and calls for entry with submission fees, I only share opportunities that favor artists.

Last week, The Open Call List’s published its fourth paid subscriber guide: 15 Open Call Photobook Awards and Publishing Prizes. This week’s Open Call List below contains 20 calls for entry, 11 of which offer free submission. The list includes opportunities for exhibition in several renowned festivals and photographic institutions, a portfolio review with a major U.S. print publisher, various photographic awards and photobook awards, a photo residency, several digital exhibition opportunities, and calls for print publication. The jobs section contains includes new internships, full-time positions at arts organizations, and adjacent jobs photographic-oriented jobs.

Dek Unu Magazine’s Open Call (Publication) | Deadline: 1/20, Fee: FREE, Submission: 11 Images, CV, project commentary, Publication Includes: Dek Unu publishes one photo-based artist per issue of the magazine, and each issue includes 11 images, as well as accompanying text from the artist.
Pamplemousse Magazine’s Open Call: Instant Photos (Print Publication) | Deadline: 1/22, Fee: FREE, Submission: Two instant photos with the original film border included in the scan, Selection Includes: Publication in Pamplemousse Magazine’s Spring 2025 print issue.
Pasadena Photography Arts’s Open Show “Love” (Virtual Exhibition + Presentation) "| Deadline: 1/22, Fee: FREE, Submission: Project information, 10-20 images from a single project, Selection Includes: Virtual exhibition and presentation of work via Pasadena Photography Arts, Virtual Presentation Date: February 12, 2025. Restriction: Applicants must be able to present virtually on Wednesday, February 12th, at 5:30pm PST.

LensCulture’s New Visions Awards | Deadline: 1/27 (Extended), Fee: FREE for a single image, $45 for a series, Submission: Project statement, artist bio, single images or series up to 15 images, Awards: One grand prize winner and six winners (one from each entry category) will be selected to receive prizes ranging between $1,000 to $10,000, as well as various exhibition prizes, online features, and more.
Center for Creative Photography’s Fellowships | Deadline: 1/27, Fee: FREE, Submission: CV, project description, list of collections to be used, proposed budget of fellowship money, Awards: Fellowships range from $2,500 to $5,000 and allow access for research in select Center for Creative Photography Archives in Tucson, AZ, USA.
Center for Photography at Woodstock’s AIR 2025 (Residency) | Deadline: 1/31, Fee: FREE, Submission: 10-15 Images, work plan proposal, bio, artist statement, CV, references, headshot, Residency Includes: A four-week stay in a house with two artist studios, a $2,000 honorarium, $250 travel stipend, and access to CPW’s digital studios, as well as $1000 credit towards services printing services. Restriction: This residency invites US-based BIPOC and ALAANA identifying artists working in any genre of photography or related media to apply.
Belfast Photo Festival’s Open Call (Exhibition + Awards) | Deadline: 1/31, Fee: £23 / €29, Submission: Up to 15 images, Awards: 20-40 photographers will have work printed and exhibited in the festival, as well as included in the festival catalog; other awards include £2,000 cash, a Royal Photographic Society Membership, and inclusion in several print publications, Exhibition Dates: June 5 to June 30, 2025, Exhibition Location: Belfast, Northern Ireland.
Photographic Exploration Project’s “Metamorphosis” (Outdoor Exhibition) | Deadline: 1/31, Fee: 5€ for 1 image, 10€ for 3 images, or 15€ for a series, Submission: Artist statement, photos, description of work, Selection Includes: Selected artists will take part in an outdoor group exhibition in the forest of the Belgian Ardenne in June 2025 as part of the art and music festival La Nature, as well as be published in the exhibition catalog and receive a ticket and +1 to the opening day of the festival.

Fotografia Europea’s FE+SK Book Award | Deadline: 1/31, Fee: 10€, Submission: Photobook project in PDF form, Award Includes: Publication by Skinnerboox, presentation during the opening days of the Fotografia Europea festival (24-27 April 2025 in Reggio Emilia, Italy), as well as printing with a print run of 500 copies. Restriction: This call is open to European (or resident in Europe) photographers, curators, and collectives.
Gomma’s Black & White Awards | Deadline: 1/31, Fee: €15, Submission: 8-24 Images, Awards: Prizes range from €100 - €500 and include publication in, as well as a copy of, a printed catalog of award winning images.
