Hi,

Welcome to The Open Call List #97!

In this weekly newsletter, I share opportunities for photographers for exhibitions, publications, fellowships, grants, residencies, jobs, and more. My goal is to make the photography world more accessible, especially to emerging artists. While I include both free opportunities and calls for entry with submission fees, I only share opportunities that favor artists.

Opening Remarks:
As we move into a new year, I want to start with a heartfelt thank you. In the last year, many of you have messaged me to let me know that you found jobs, exhibited work, received grants, attended residencies, found renewed creative motivation, or even published your first photobook(!) as a result of opportunities found in this newsletter. These sorts of messages truly move me and affirm that this newsletter is becoming what I’d hoped it would when I started it: a valuable resource for those in the photography community. Whether you have read, subscribed, shared, or otherwise interacted with The Open Call List in the last year… thank you! Your presence here motivates me to continue writing each week.

This week’s Open Call List contains 30 calls for entry, 17 of which offer free submission. The list includes calls for nudes, pinhole photographs, complete portfolios, images of cars, images that break the mold, referential images, and small works, among many others calls. It also includes opportunities for awards and prizes for bodies of work, as well as individual images. There are exhibition opportunities across the U.S. and in Europe, as well as funded residencies in the U.S., Canada, and Northern Europe. Finally, there are calls for many publications, including both calls for individual submissions to group publications, as well as calls for complete books to be published by photobook publishers.

The Jobs section contains new jobs in the photo arts industry. Among others, this week’s new jobs include a role working in a well-established wet plate collodion studio.

Paid subscribers have access to a list of additional material which introduce a wide range opportunities (e.g. photography festivals, photobook awards, galleries that accept submissions, and more), as well as guide submissions and best practices.
