Welcome to The Open Call List #59!

In this weekly newsletter, I share opportunities for photographers for exhibitions, publications, fellowships, grants, residencies, jobs, and more. My goal is to make the photography world more accessible, especially to emerging artists. While I include both free opportunities and calls for entry with submission fees, I only share opportunities that favor artists.

An Important Reminder:

Beginning next Monday, April 21, 2025, The Open Call List will change its payment model. Moving forward, the newsletter will require a paid subscription. Like before, sliding scale subscriptions between $2-$5 a month will be available to maintain accessibility. (A free subscription option will be possible for those with financial need.)

Alongside these changes, The Open Call List is excited to introduce new and expanded reader benefits! The first additional reader benefit — a directory of contemporary photography galleries that accept submissions for representation and exhibition — will be published on Thursday, April 24, for all paid subscribers. Additionally, in May, the newsletter will publish an interview with a curator at a major photography institution about how to get your work noticed, how to develop relationships with institutions, how to prepare for portfolio reviews, and more.

Opening Remarks:
This week’s Open Call List below contains 25 calls for entry, nine of which offer free submission. The list includes opportunities to participate in several community events and portfolio reviews, calls for multiple major grants and awards, various print publication opportunities, calls for in-person, virtual, and projected exhibitions, a wide range of calls for photography festivals, as well as opportunities for educators, photobook artists, and more.

As summer approaches, the Jobs section has a particularly large amount of internship opportunities, as well as jobs related to photography in higher education and in the photo arts industry. There are several hybrid opportunities, as well as one remote opportunity, included.
